Revisions to the Viatical Settlements Model Act in June 2007 have been supported by some and disputed by others.

The Viatical Settlements Model Act was developed by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners as a model for states to base their legislation on regarding viatical and life settlements. Not all states have passed laws based on it. Many states modify it as they think best. Even so, it is a good indication of what the nation's highest insurance officials believe to be the right and wrong of this industry.
